5 Things I Bring With Me On Any Trip
While I was away over the long weekend, I was thinking about how some of my routines are so ingrained in my life that I automatically continue to do them even when I’m away for a week or a weekend.
Holidays or not, there are habits that I continue to do daily that allow me to feel my best from the inside out.
They may seem small when reading them, but if you think about the amount of times you go away for the weekend, go on holidays for a week or have a two-day trip with friends, those days add up and sticking with things that make you feel good allows you to show up better in whatever it is you’re doing.
so, what do I bring?
Vitamins
Smoothie Ingredients
Water Bottle
Skincare Routine
Headphones
Let’s elaborate.
Vitamins
My vitamins come with me everywhere, any time I am going to be away from the house. I plan on chatting more about what I take consistently, what I take occasionally and other supplements I keep on hand. But I’ll share that my daily routine consists of: a multivitamin, an omega, a probiotic, a B-complex and a digestive enzyme.
Smoothie Ingredients
Funny enough, I forgot my protein powder for the long weekend but fortunately for me my brother's recently been enjoying smoothies so I convinced him to let me borrow some. But, I will bring protein, almond milk and a magic bullet blender or a shaker bottle with me depending on what works best. If it’s somewhere I’m going to be for more than a day or two, I will bring chia seeds, almond butter, fruit and spinach to get my full smoothie in while I’m away. There is no breakfast I enjoy more than my smoothie!
Water Bottle
I don’t even go to the grocery store without my water bottle. Actually. It’s basically glued to me at all times and going away or on a trip is no different. Having a water bottle close by makes staying hydrated so much easier. If you’re out of routine and have to go looking for water, you are far less likely to keep up with your water intake. And most of us could use more water during a normal routine, let alone on holidays
Skincare Routine
I am very consistent with my skincare routine and I always have been. I have sensitive skin so keeping make-up on overnight or not getting a thorough wash doesn’t do me any favours. My routine doesn’t take long and I don’t use a lot of products, but this is still something that I prioritize when I am packing. I strongly encourage you to prioritize this as well. What we put on our skin filters into our bloodstream and into our body so using natural products and washing away make-up at the end of the day is going to help with that glow we are all looking for.
Headphones
Whether it’s for some music during a workout, a podcast on a walk or some evening chill time, headphones are a must. Having something to listen to during specific activities really elevates my mood.
Why is this important?
I’ve been talking recently about consistency, and this is something that comes up frequently with my clients. These are daily actions and daily routines that help me feel my best, which puts me in a better mood and allows me to fully enjoy my holidays or my time away.
These routines have become part of who I am. And that is because of how they make me feel.
I know that having a smoothie to start my day, instead of a heavier breakfast or a breakfast without protein, is going to make my whole day feel better by keeping me full, minimizing sugar cravings and keeping my blood sugar levels stable.
I also know that staying hydrated means I’m less likely to have a headache right in middle of the afternoon. It also means that I’m keeping my hydration up so if I have a cocktail or two more than normal, I can rebound faster and still be up with the kids in the morning.
what about balance?
This is what balance means to me. I know that I’m going to eat and drink a little different when I’m away, so I stick with habits that fit into my holidays and that add value rather than feeling like I’m restricting.
These routines make me feel my best. They make me happy and I genuinely feel better and different when I keep these routines.
My encouragement is to always find routines and habits that bring value to your life. Healthy living and creating your own healthy balance is all about finding habits that are sustainable long-term. Short-term solutions that you know you won’t be able to sustain are a waste of your efforts and are going to leave you feeling discouraged.
Spend time to find the routines that bring you joy. It may take time to find them, and it may take time for them to stick and to feel the benefit, but I promise once you do…it’s worth it.
Do you have routines like this that you stick with no matter where you’re going?
